Richard Hayton

Senior Pastor

My Wife Diane and I have been married for more than forty years. We have three grown up and married children and seven grandsons. I love meeting people, socialising and getting to know them and their personal stories. To relax my wife and I love to cook and entertain. We are also National Trust Members and enjoy getting out into the countryside for a walk and visit places of interest. We also like to listen to music and watch tv.

Over many years I have taken a very active role in many different sports such as golf, cricket and football. I have just retired after twenty five years as a senior county football referee. Prior to my move to Birmingham I was also Chaplain to Gillingham FC for twenty years. Today, I like to keep fit and go to the gym as often as possible.

I attended church from a very young age and came to a real faith in Christ through Sunday School at Zion Baptist Church Chatham Kent aged ten. I was baptised by full immersion in water in the sea when I was fourteen and filled with the Holy Spirit the same day. While I would describe myself as being Charismatic and Evangelical; I also value the contribution that other Christian traditions have had on my spiritual journey. One of my real passions is to see local churches working together in unity to reach their local community for Christ, partnering together wherever possible.
